Perish or prosper: Trade patterns for highly perishable seafood products

In recent years trade with highly perishable agricultural products like fresh fish, berries, and cut flowers has increased substantially. The perishability of these appears to challenge conventional wisdom when it comes food trade, which emphasizes the importance large shipments reduce transportation costs. this paper, gravity models several margins are estimated for salmon, a product. results indicate that geographical distance have larger negative effect than what is generally reported in literature. Most interestingly, number exporters shipment frequency increase while there little impact on size increase.
